how do i put a free podcast on my ipod?

i downloaded a video podcast and i went to edit–>preferences–>ipod–>automatically update all podcasts, and then i right clicked on my ipod icon and clicked ‘update’, but it still won’t go on my ipod! why is that? what am i doing wrong?
